I can’t recommend it, that depends on where you are and your personal situation. I’m glad I went though and just want to maybe give Oppo some food for thought. Speaking of food, if it helps put this experience in perspective, I have not been to a restaurant, and have no plans to until April.

Independent theaters have a hard-go at the best of times. There’s not many left and we even saw a local chain theater close some months back. I wanted to support this local business, and enjoy a movie in a theater to boot.

It was the safest experience I’ve had since March. Every second row was closed, end seats were closed and there were three seats closed between groups. Masks were mandatory and they even went so far as to only handle the keypad themselves and ask how much I wanted to tip. There were designated entrance and exit routes, they changed to paper wrapped straws, and sanitizer was everywhere. They know what’s riding on this for both their business, and as a responsibility to the public.

It wasn’t quite a private showing but close enough with three groups of two arriving later. I’m not sure if this was due to the late afternoon showing or COVID. Probably a bit of both. Cool, just the same.

The experience: 9/10

!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! was like two documentaries put together to create a unique science fiction narrative. The Soviet cosmic era footage was only 20 minutes of the hour and a half runtime but that’s all that was needed to portray the brutality the dogs were put through. It was very difficult to watch, but that happened.

Equally disturbing was the footage of a street dog attacking and slowly killing a house cat, live, real, and the sounds of the little bones being crushed...difficult to watch, but that happened.

There were many times I didn’t appreciate the very slow pacing but in retrospect it gave time to fill in the blanks of a relationship between two wild street dogs as there was very little narration. Wow, was it slow.

The Movie: Very interesting, unique, but just good as a film. 6.8/10

As RiceRocketeer Extraordinaire has mentioned, it’s available to rent here:

Spoiler Alert:

I thought it was a wonderful touch to include both turtles and a monkey in an abstract way. It definitely added some brightness to a very dark movie.

Brave man. I am not a (movie) theatre man, with less than 5 visits over the past 15 years and COVID essentially guaranteed I wouldn’t go back for at least another few years.

We did go to Pourhouse in Gastown and S habusen on Burrard in the past month, our first “dining in” experiences since February .  We also order from some of our local joints in order to support them as well.

The Mrs and I drove by a movie theater killing time yesterday and I saw that Empire Strikes Back is in the theater for a 40th anniversary and it is the only time since this began I was tempted to go to the movies.

On sunday evening the theater only had like 8 cars in the parking lot so it made me figure seeing it on a weeknight might mean the theater was almost empty.  I am tempted.

I ate inside a fast food restaurant yesterday for the first time in ages. Not many customers, sat with a friend from the orchestra who was there. I think it was fine, but I guess we’ll see.

I was a theater addict pre-COVID and started my withdrals in May.

Over the last month I’ve been to a brewery a three times. With the way things are heading with weather and COVID numbers I’ll probably stop visiting the brewery patio soon.

It’s a bit too early to say for sure but if I can go to some October/Halloween movies that would be nice. We’ll see.

I don’t like going to a theater during normal times! I have only made exceptions for really visual films in IMAX, for a matinee. I think the last films I saw in the theater were Prometheus and Fury Road. I should have seen Interstellar.

The last time I went to a theater was to see Joker. It was a $5 Tuesday morning show. I was the only one in there.

I guess it was foreshadowing.

In some instances people aren’t taking any precautions , and in others, like theaters, sometimes over board. And that can play out to a movie goers bene fit. I wasn’t within 30ft of another person except the person serving at the concession stand behind glass.

I wanted to go see Tenet at a theater with some friends but one of them got sick (not sure if it is COVID). Theaters around here have been reasonably busy but I believe they are spacing out seats.

Instead I watched Interstellar after sneaking into a classroom with a projector with friends late Friday night.

Me too, with the times. The theater I mentioned that closed was a favorite because I could drive there in 5 minutes on a Sunday at noon. RIP.

N ot sure how it’s handled here, we don’t even have a mask mandate in this county so it’s anyone’s guess.

That’s my concern is that they’re not doing anything other than opening the theater.

A few weeks back Mrs. BaconSandwich and I watched Bill and Ted Face the Music at our local budget theatre. There was _maybe_ 15-20 people in the entire theatre. Everyone had masks, and everyone was socially distant. It was honestly fine. Mind you, that’s in a city of ~ 100,000 people that currently has 1 known active case.  Maybe 10-15 at the time we saw the movie.  I like our budget theatre, and I hope they manage to stay in business.

I think I might feel guilt if this theater closed and I hadn’t gone.

O h, we’ve got cases alright. We’re in z oom territory and in my opin ion it’s not even second wave but just people in public being reck less . I walked past a dozen restaurants to get to the theater. From what I saw, NOPE.

It blows my mind that people would consider going to a movie t heater during a deadly viral pandemic which is best transmitted in places like movie theaters.

As I mentioned, I can’t recommend it as I don’t know your local or personal situation.

My junior minion is in the closing credits where they had people submit videos. From what I hear, most everyone who followed the rules got in, including Weird Al who sent his video in unsolicited. It was a fun that they had this contest. We had a good afternoon filming her play, she got to wonder how they would use the video for a few months and then she was thrilled to see herself in the movie.

We opted to buy it at home, but I would like to see it in the theater someday. It was a good film.

Our local Cinemark theaters  are doing private showings of older moves for $100. My wife and I have done a couple of these with some friends we trust that we’ve been hanging out with this whole time. Divided among four people the price per person isn’t awful considering there isn’t much we feel comfortable doing these days.

O nly $25 a head compared to my $ 15. That sounds really cool. How’s the selection? What did you see?

Jurassic Park and Hocus Pocus. The selection is pretty good and changes weekly.
